A different way of winning

"Talking about the 82 games in next season, here’s somethingI’m excited for. This was my third season with the team. The last two seasons the slogans were “Red is Caps Hockey”, “Rock the Red” and everybody was just excited ‘cause they know we have a good young team.

My first year we were happy to get in, and last year was like“We lost to the Penguins, and they went on to win the Stanley Cup, it was a seventh game. Next year will be exciting.” Everyone was just like “rah-rah…”right?

But this year, to me, whatever the slogan is, there’s a little bit of a shadow over the Verizon Center. I feel like there’s going to be this edge next year. Everyone’s going to play with a little chip on their shoulder. I don’t think it’s going to be all “rah-rah…”, it’s going to be more “It’s time to punch-in; it’s business time.”. It’s going to be a little more hard hat, a little more lunch bucket. It’s crazy to think about the talent they have. Now this team is p*ssed-off, and they’re going to play with an edge.

I think they are going to want their revenge. They are going to want to prove something, even though they just proved that over 82 games, we won by huge margin. Next year, just thinking about it, gets me really amped up and really excited. Not just because of the fact that it’s the same team, and that they are going to succeed, but the way they are going to do it. I think it’s going to be a totally different way of winning, and it’s going to be fun."
